내몽골 사진을 정리하다가. – While arranging pictures of Inner Mongolia.

내가 사진을 찍는 것이 아니라 필름이 사진을 찍고 있다는 생각을 했다. 확실히 비싼 슬라이드 필름으로 찍은 사진은 강렬한 색감 때문에 대충 찍어도 멋져 보인다. 그러나 그건 내가 찍은 게 아니다.

I happened to think that the subject of taking a picture is film, not me. Surely, pictures taken by expensive slide film look nice because of strong colours. But it is not taken by me.

비싼 카메라, 비싼 필름, 비싼 장비를 쓰면 분명히 사진은 좋아질 것이다. 그러나 좋은 집, 좋은 차를 가지고서 머리에는 똥만 넣고 다닌다면 무슨 소용이 있겠는가.

With expensive camera, expensive film, expensive tools, pictures would be surely improved. But even with good house, good car, if my brain is empty, it might be useless.

당분간 비싼 필름은 쓰지 않겠다.

I will not use expensive films.
