[Uppsala] 스파게티 소스 병을 깨 먹다. – I broke a bottle of spaghetti sauce.

목이 말라 냉장고 문을 열다가 그만……

깨지면서 튄 파편은 내 발등을 스치고 지나가 따가운 생채기를 남겼다. 더 큰일은 끈적한 스파게티 소스 속에 파묻힌 유리 파편을 제거하는 일이었다. 빗자루로 쓸 수도 없고, 청소기로 흡입할 수도 없고, 손으로 긁어 모을 수도 없고 거 참…… 게다가 나 말고 치워 줄 사람도 없는데, 허허…… 순간 굉장히 난감했다.

일단 고무장갑을 끼고 조심조심 덩어리를 집어 무슨 생각에서 그랬는지는 모르겠는데 싱크대로 옮겼다. 그렇게 해서 물을 내리면 유리와 소스가 분리되리라 생각한 모양이다. 아무튼 그리하여 물을 내렸더니 아니나 다를까 스파게티 소스에 들어 있는 덩어리 때문에 싱크대가 막혔다. 더 난감해졌다. 그냥 쓰레기통에 버려야 했을 것을…… 어쩔 수 없이 배수구를 손으로 이리저리 훑으니 물이 내려가긴 했으나 유리파편에 손을 찔렸다. 어찌나 놀랐던지……

바닥에 남은 파편 덩어리와 소스 덩어리는 빗자루로 열심히 쓸어 담았다. 그리고 빗자루를 헹구고 다시 쓸기를 몇 차례, 남은 파편은 청소기로 흡입했다. 늦은 밤이라 정말 미안했지만 어쩔 수 없었다고나 할까. 화장실로 튄 파편, 싱크대에 남은 파편까지 남김없이 빨아들인 후에야 안심하고 잘 수 있었다. 그래도 안심이 되지 않아 아침에 다시 청소기 돌리고 테이프로 바닥을 열심히 훑었다.

나중에 안 사실인데 진공 청소기로 유리파편이나 물을 흡입하면 절대 안된다고 한다. 그 이유인 즉슨, 날카로운 유리파편이 필터를 뚫고 들어가 모터에 걸리거나 물기가 필터 뒷편으로 날아가 모터를 적시거나 하면 모터가 폭발하기 때문이다. 정말 간밤에 목숨을 걸고 사투를 벌인 셈이 되었다.

찝찝해서 청소기 필터도 뽑아서 버려버렸다. 뜯어서 보니 필터가 그렇게 쉽게 뚫릴 것 처럼 생기지는 않아 보였다. 다행이다.

Pieces of bottle hurt my foot. What is worse was cleaning the bottle pieces in the sticky spaghetti sauce. I couldn’t use broom, vacuum cleaner or my hands. And there was nobody except me. I was very confused.

First of all, I put on a pair of rubber gloves. And I moved them – I don’t know why I did so – to the sink. Maybe I thought that if I turn on the tap, they could be banished. But, result was fail. The sink was blocked with the lump of spaghetti sauce. I should have moved them to dust bin. So, I had to stir them. It suceeded but I was hurt with piece of glass. How surprised it was!!

And I cleaned rest of pieces with broom, with noisy vacuum cleaner. It was a dark night, so I was very sorry. But I had no choice without doing so. I cleaned my toilet, sink. Then, I could go to bed with relief. This morning, I cleaned there with vacuum cleaner again and scotch tape again.

I became to know later that it is very dangerous to clean broken piece s of glass or water with vacuum cleaner. The reason is that broken piece of glass or water can tear the filter of cleaner and reach the motor, then the motor explodes. I did a death struggle.

I remove the filter of vacuum cleaner with feeling constrained. But the filter didn’t seem to so weak. I was very lucky.
